Choose a question type

SurveyX has 13 question types you can add to a survey. Seven come with the free plugin; six need Pro. This page compares them so you can pick the right one, then links to the page that covers it.

Free and Pro

Six of the 13 types below need an active Pro licence: contact info, opinion scale, rating, date, file upload, and matrix / Likert. See pricing for plans.

Why the picker shows 11, not 13

When you add a question, the Question Type picker lists 11 entries. Two of them each cover two of the 13 types:

  • Checkbox becomes multiple choice or multi-select, depending on the Maximum Choice setting on the question. Leave it at 1 and respondents see radio buttons (pick one); raise it above 1 and they see checkboxes (pick several).
  • Image Checkbox works the same way for images: one selectable image at Maximum Choice 1, a multi-select image gallery above it.

Every other entry in the picker is its own type, with no split. The mechanic is covered in detail on Choice questions.

Settings every type shares

A few controls sit on every question's settings panel regardless of type, so the pages below don't repeat them:

  • Required — a single toggle next to the type picker. Contact info is the one exception: it has no toggle of its own, because a contact-info question is required whenever at least one of its fields is marked required.
  • Show Message After Answering — an optional message shown once the respondent answers.
  • The label on the submit button for that question.

What respondents see

Each type renders differently on the survey itself — a checkbox question shows options to tick, a date question shows three text fields, and so on. The page for each type describes exactly what a respondent sees and how it changes with the type's own settings.
