Privacy Policy
Last updated 5 August 2026The short version: this website sets no tracking cookies, runs no analytics and has no forms of its own, so browsing it collects nothing about you. The only personal information we hold is what reaches us when you buy a licence, which is your name, email address and billing country. The survey responses your visitors submit never reach us at all.
Who this policy covers
This policy explains how we handle personal information in connection with the SurveyX website at surveyx.co, the SurveyX Builder plugin, and the support we provide around them. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean the team that publishes SurveyX, and "you" means anyone who visits the site, uses the plugin or buys a licence. We are the data controller for the information described here, and you can reach us about any of it at [email protected]. Freemius is the merchant of record for paid licences and is the controller of the payment data you enter at their checkout, under their own privacy policy.
This policy does not cover what you do with SurveyX on your own website. When you collect survey responses from your visitors, you decide what to ask and what to do with the answers, which makes you responsible for those responses rather than us. What we collect
When you browse this website
Nothing that identifies you. This site is a set of static pages. It sets no tracking cookies, loads no analytics or advertising scripts, embeds no third-party trackers, and serves its own fonts rather than fetching them from another provider. There is no contact form, no newsletter box, and no surveyx.co account to sign up for.
There is one exception, and it is deliberate. The account page embeds the Freemius customer portal in a frame so you can reach your licences, invoices and downloads without leaving this site. That frame is served by Freemius, the sign-in happens on their systems rather than ours, and they may set their own cookies inside it under their privacy policy. Nothing you type into it passes through a server of ours, and the rest of the site loads no such frame.
As with any website, our hosting provider processes the technical information a browser has to send in order to receive a page, such as an IP address, a user agent and the page requested. That data is used to serve the site and keep it secure. We do not use it to build a profile of you and we do not combine it with anything else.
When you buy a licence
Checkout is handled by Freemius, our payment provider and merchant of record. You enter your details on Freemius rather than on our site, and Freemius processes the payment. From that transaction we receive your name, email address, billing country and licence details, together with the sites your licence is activated on so that we can deliver updates to them.
We never receive or store your full payment card number. Card data goes to Freemius and its payment processors and is never passed to us.
When you contact support
We hold whatever you choose to send us: your email address, your message, and any site details, log output or screenshots you attach so that we can reproduce the problem. Pro support runs on Ticksy, a hosted ticket system, so a ticket and its attachments are stored there on our behalf; email reaches us through our email provider instead.
Why we use it
- To deliver what you bought. Issuing and validating your licence, and delivering plugin updates to the sites it covers.
- To support you. Answering your questions and diagnosing problems.
- To tell you things you need to know. A security release, a breaking change, or a licence about to expire.
- To protect the product. Detecting licence abuse, fraud and misuse of our update service.
- To meet our legal obligations. Keeping the transaction records that tax and accounting rules require.
Where the law requires a legal basis for processing, ours is performance of our contract with you for the first two purposes, our legitimate interest in running and protecting the product for the next two, and legal obligation for the last.
Survey responses stay on your site
SurveyX Builder is a self-hosted WordPress plugin. Every survey you build and every response you collect is stored in your own WordPress database, on your own hosting. Responses are not sent to us, not routed through our servers, and not stored by any third party on our behalf. We have no access to them.
This also means you are the data controller for the people who answer your surveys. Telling them what you collect and why, keeping it only as long as you need it, and honouring their requests are your responsibility, not ours.
To make that easier, the plugin collects as little as it can on your behalf: it does not record respondents' IP addresses or browser details, and it stores a location only if you deliberately connect a geolocation provider. What you hold about a respondent is what your own questions asked for.
Cookies
This website does not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and it does not use analytics cookies. If we ever need a cookie for the site to function, it will be strictly necessary for that purpose and this page will say so.
The Freemius checkout runs on Freemius domains and sets its own cookies under its own privacy policy. The same applies to the customer portal embedded on the account page. Both happen only if you choose to start a purchase or open that page.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for third-party advertising. We share it only with the providers we need in order to run the product:
- Freemius, for payment processing, licence management and invoicing.
- Ticksy, for the Pro support ticket system.
- Our email and hosting providers, to send licence and support email and to serve this website.
These providers act on our instructions and are bound by their own agreements with us. We may also disclose information where the law genuinely requires it, or where it is necessary to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim.
International transfers
Our providers may process data in countries other than your own. Where information is transferred out of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent transfer mechanism to protect it.
How long we keep it
Licence and transaction records are kept for as long as your licence is active, and afterwards for as long as tax and accounting rules require us to keep them. Support conversations are kept while they remain useful for helping you, then deleted or anonymised. If you ask us to delete your information and no legal obligation requires us to keep it, we will.
Marketing email
We do not add you to a marketing list because you bought a licence. If you opt in to product news, every message includes an unsubscribe link and one click is enough. Unsubscribing does not stop transactional email such as invoices, licence expiry notices and security advisories, because those are part of the service you bought.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you,
- correct it if it is wrong,
- delete it,
- send you a copy in a portable format, or
- stop using it for a particular purpose.
Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. Because we hold so little, most of these requests are quick to answer. We may need to confirm your identity first, which usually means replying from the address on the licence. If you are in a region with a data protection authority and you are unhappy with our response, you have the right to complain to it.
If you are a California resident: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law, and we will not treat you differently for exercising any privacy right.
Security
This site is served over HTTPS, payment data never touches our systems, and access to licence and support records is limited to the people who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. The strongest protection here is structural: we hold very little, so there is very little to lose.
Links to other sites
This website links to places we do not control, including WordPress.org, Freemius and our own social profiles. Once you follow a link, that site's privacy policy applies rather than ours, and we are not responsible for how it handles your information.
Children
SurveyX is a tool for website owners and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we add anything that changes what we collect, such as analytics, an account system or a newsletter, we will update this page and change the date at the top before it takes effect. Significant changes will be announced on this website.
